Veteran baseball man returns for 9th season in Giants organization, and 32nd campaign overall in professional baseball...will mark 6th-straight year serving as SF's bullpen catcher...earlier in career, logged 15 years as minor league manager...prior to joining San Francisco chain, former big league catcher spent 6 years in Cubs organization and 6 seasons with Rockies.

2003-07: Has been Giants' bullpen catcher last 5 campaigns, while assisting pitching coach Dave Righetti and bullpen coach Mark Gardner with pitching aspects...was originally slated to manage single-A San Jose in 2003, but was elevated to big league club prior to Opening Day...2002: Piloted San Jose to 68-72 ledger, including 37-33 mark in 1st half...2001: Led single-A Hagerstown to 2nd half South Atlantic League title to qualify for playoffs, as club posted 83-57 overall mark...2000: Joined Giants organization from Colorado chain and skippered SF's double-A entry at Shreveport...1999: Served as manager for triple-A Colorado Springs, top club in Rockies chain...1998: Was bullpen coach in big leagues for Colorado, working on Don Baylor's staff...1996-97: Was at helm of Rockies' double-A club in New Haven of Eastern League...1995: Managed in Carolina League, piloting Rox' single-A entry at Salem...following season, led Maui Stingrays to Hawaiian Winter League championship...1994: Joined Colorado organization and served as manager of Central Valley club in California League...1993: In final year in Cubs' organization, piloted Daytona Beach of Florida State League...1992: Skippered Cubs' Carolina League team at Winston-Salem...1991: Was in charge of Peoria in Midwest League...1988-90: Kicked off his managerial career with Geneva of New York-Penn League, and skippered Cubs' rookieleague entry for 3 campaigns...his 1990 club captured Central Division title.

Playing career:
Originally Cubs' 1st round selection (13th pick overall) in 1978 June Free Agent Draft, logged 10 professional seasons...was in Chicago chain from 1978-85 and again in 1987, after stint with Kansas City's triple-A club in 1986...made 2 trips to majors with Cubs, once each in 1980 and '81...in 1st big league start, went 2-for-5 with 2B and guided Lynn McGlothen to 4-hit shutout in Cubs' 6-0 victory at Pittsburgh Oct. 4, 1980.
